Guess What?!

I stormed the clearance racks here in Hawaii and bought the kids some killer cute tops for winter!! Can't wait to be experiencing the cold, I say that now as I sit in 80' weather, but that is fine. We are SO ready to be back on the mainland near family and friends!
It is extremely beautiful here and we will miss our time in paradise, but as of now our hearts ache to be "Home." Although we have several more months to go we gearing up for some fun times in the cold!

 Dallas helped the children create a fort for them to sleep in one weekend...all was quite after our movie so, I crept  upstairts to check on them...this is what I saw! I hurried back downstairs and grabbed the camera and Dallas! I dunno how Sariah slept in the laundry basket! But, I do love these moments!

Sariah: Super Eagle Award

Sariah was chosen as the recipient of the Super Eagle Award for her Kindergarten Class!!! This of course was for the month of March! Due to the fact, that I have been so SLOW about updating our family blog, it doesn't get the recognition it deserves until now.

Sariah worked extremely hard for the third quarter of the school year and has made vast improvements! We are all very proud of her and her accomplishment!

Part 1: A Gilmore Summer: 2010

The summer before Dallas embarked on his deployment to Iraq his ENTIRE family flew to the island of Oahu to visit, with the exception of Rocky and Chelsea who lived here as well! It was a HAPPY time and I am sorry to be blogging about it so late...my excuse...I had SO many emotions running through me with Dallas leaving that it was HARD to blog.
We had a WONDERFUL visit and as I look back on the many pictures my heart aches to be near FAMILY...WE MISS THEM SO MUCH!!! 
Here are some of the our Summer Highlights with the Gilmore Family:

Library Time

I have been taking the kids to the library for sometime now and I love it! It's free and it gets the kids and I out of the house! But, more importantly I have seen some major results from our library trips...Sadie has finished the ENTIRE Percy Jackson series and is now getting started with the Harry Potter series and Sophie is on the fourth book from Diary of A Wimpy Kid! Sadie and Sophie's love for reading is growing and I cannot be more excited!
Ammon and Sariah also love their trips to the library...Ammon loves being able to borrow the Spiderman DVD's over and over again and Sariah loves being able to glance through the many books available, she usually borrows the holiday themed books, I don't know why but she does.
Here are some pretty old pictures taken back in October/November! In case you are wondering I don't usually take my camera to the library this was a rare case I simply wanted to capture our library visit.

Somedays when I know we have to return our overdue books, I do dread our library visits because I am SO tired, but then we get there and the trip is well worth it!
P.S.
We visit the SGT. Yano Library here on Schofield Barracks, so Dallas usually gets all of our overdue book notices with threats to notify his Commander if they continue to be late (via his military e-mail address) You gotta love the ARMY...right!?

"Honorable Mention"

This past week Sadie participated in the Fifth Grade Science Fair. Sadie along with four other students in her class participated in the Science Fair as SEMIFINALIST. Thursday evening we gathered at the school cafeteria to view all the Fifth Grade Science Projects. Sadie did a wonderful job in answering and explaining her experiment to the judges.

Sadie titled her Science Fair Project Apples & Apples. She conducted 5 experiments where she counted the seeds of five different types of apples, which came to a grand total of 25 apples (Granny Smith, Gala, Fuji, Red Delicious & Golden Delicious). Here is a breakdown of what her Science Fair board consisted of:

Hypothesis

The hypothesis of my experiment is that Granny Smith Apples will have more seeds because my mother buys Granny Smith Apples and there always seems to be at least 8 seeds in each apple.

What is the effect of different types of apples on the number of seeds?

Granny Smith Apples are grown in areas of Australia, New Zealand, USA, South America, British Columba, Canada and the United Kingdom.

Gala

Gala Apples were first grown in New Zealand. The first Gala Apple was created from a Golden Delicious and a Kidd’s Orange Red planted in New Zealand in the 1930s by a man named J.H. Kidd an orchardist.  

Fuji

The Fuji apple was grown in the Tohoku Research Station in Fujisaki, Amori, Japan in the late 1930s. It started to sell in 1962. The Fuji apple is a cross between the Red Delicious Apple and the Ralls Genet Apple.

Golden Delicious

The Golden Delicious Apple was a chance seedling. It was created from two apples named Grimes Golden and Golden Reinette in Clay County, West Virginia.      

Red Delicious

This apple is a copy of Apple Cultigen. It was grown in Madison County, Iowa, Untied States in 1880.

Results

       On average an 8oz Golden Delicious apple had more seeds than a Fuji, Granny Smith, Red Delicious of same weight and size.

       Over the 5 experiments Golden Delicious had an average of 9 seeds per apple. Red Delicious had an average of 8 seeds per apple. Granny Smith had an average of 7 seeds. Fuji and Gala both had an average of 6 seeds.

Conclusion

     My results for each trail were different. Some apples were more consistent with the number of seeds in them, which caused me to take the average number of seeds over the five trails.

         I think there is a possibility that the different climates and regions each apple was farmed on could have caused a change in the number of seeds.

         I had one problem; I grabbed a Pacific Rose Apple instead of a Gala Apple for my 5^th trail. To correct this problem in the future I will double-check the apple stickers to make sure it is the right apple.

         If I did the experiment again I would add more types of apples instead of just five.

         In the beginning I thought that Granny Smith Apples would have the most seeds because my mom buys them all the time but Golden Delicious had more seeds than Granny Smith.

         The results of my experiment made me wonder if the weight and size of the apples would affect the number of seeds in them? And, if I did use different weights and sizes, would Golden Delicious apples on average still have more seeds than the others?

At the end of the Science Fair the judges tallied up the points...Sadie was awarded HONORABLE MENTION!! We are VERY PROUD of Sadie! She worked extremely hard, but in the end it all turned out for the better!

Gilmore Baby #5

 It's been well over two weeks and announcements have been made concerning the sex of our fifth child, but I thought for blogging sake I would document this wonderful news!! We are having ANOTHER BOY!! When getting the ultrasound, the technician had a difficult time capturing a clear image of our baby's spinal cord. I layed on my side several times and on my belly, the best I could, to help the technician out...but the baby would not cooperate. In frustration the technician said, "This baby sure is stubborn"...I chuckled!...no surprise there. All my children are VERY STRONG WILLED! Hearing those words reconfirmed, for me, that this little one was meant for our family!

We are SO excited to have another added to our family! Words CANNOT express how grateful we are for the health and growth of our little one. Experiencing a miscarriage REALLY hit me hard. I was in pain for quite sometime because, like all mothers, I had a special connection with the sweet spirit I carried and I longed for the baby to be in our family. I am filled with so much gratitude for my Heavenly Father who has eased my aching heart and blessed me with another. I know in time I WILL see my other child and that is the BEAUTY of the Gospel.
The children and Dallas are as equally grateful for this experience...welcoming another into our family! They are overjoyed and anxious, which makes me happy!

Venting

Today, I was asked (very sincerely) why I am not perky. In my defense I am very happy...just not overly bubbly. The comment REALLY bothered me though (hence the venting). I tend to worry about what others think, it is one of my weaknesses and so when this question was popped, I thought "I hope no one else feels the same". I worry a lot! I let things bother me that shouldn't.

To be honest though a lot of the mornings are hard for the children and I. We wake up at 6:15 am and prepare for school...it is a constant battle. I have to remind the girls what to do over and over again, and it gets REALLY frustrating! We have to leave the house by 7:30 am, even though we live just down the street from the school, to make it on time for school which starts at 7:55 am. It is stressful. To make matters harder, if we are late Sadie's teacher makes a comment, I know she means well, but it embarrasses Sadie and so we try to avoid those moments. So, most mornings we walk very hastily to school and I am relieved when they make it on time!

This morning was especially hard...Ammon has recently discovered he no longer needs a stroller and that he can either walk or ride his bike, which was the case today. Because I didn't let him ride his bike he howled (my kids don't cry they howl at the top of their lungs for ALL to hear) all the way down the street and to the school. I was sooooooo frustrated. I got concerned looks from other parents, it was embarrassing!

Anyways, that is just one example...there are many. I am frustrated and tired. What am I doing wrong? Sigh.

D & B's 12th Wedding Anniversary

Dear Dallas,
Happy Anniversary! As we slept in for church and then hastily dressed our children in their Sunday clothes I thought about the morning you and I were sealed, for time and all eternity, in the Mesa, Arizona Temple. Such a sweet memory! We were so young and had no idea what the Lord had in store for our newly formed family!
Over the years...especially this past year we have grown closer and our love has been strengthened immensely! Mid year you returned home to me and once again I became complete! You are a "Choice Husband" and I am grateful for the many sacrifices you make on my behalf and our family of six!
This year as we have set new goals for ourselves and family there is much to look forward to! The birth of our fifth child and possibly our move back to the mainland before the year is completed. I look ahead with much anticipation because with you I am at ease.
I love you dearly! You are my one and only true best friend!

2011 Gilmore Christmas Highlights

The kids left Santa and Rudolph a treat or two! Sophie wrote the letter and thanked Santa as well "Mahalo".

Ammon's new 16' inch Cars Bike! From Uncle David and Auntie Abecca! This by far was his favorite gift, the funny thing is, it is so much bigger than he is and yet he manages to ride it very well!

This is all that Sophie wanted for Christmas...Julie Albright! We are so glad she loves her new American Girl Doll!

Sadie had a hard time figuring out just what she wanted for Christmas, this is what she came up with and she loves being able to watch her new Harry Potter movies on DVD! We also bought her the Harry Potter Series...she loves to read and has almost completed the Percy Jackson series.

David and Rebecca spoiled Dallas with an autographed photo of Derek Jeter! Awesome GIFT!! Dallas is a HUGE Yankees fan and this gift could not be given to a more appreciative person.

Lovely picture I know....but it is Christmas morning and I was spoiled with a COACH purse and wallet from Dallas! Mighty nice I might add! I love nice things, but I must admit I have been embarrassed to use these! Dallas on the other hand was VERY excited to give it to me and EVEN unloaded my old wallet and rearranged my new wallet! Thanks Love!

Sariah's new Bitty Baby Twins from American Girl! She likes these dolls, but I don't think they were her favorite gift! Her favorite gifts were her Barbie Makeup Kit and Keyboard! Sariah loves putting on make-up in the morning and has very pretty hot pink lips!

Our Christmas Morning Breakfast! Prepared by Chef Dallas...pancakes with strawberries and whipping cream, over easy eggs, bacon and orange juice! YUM!

The kids are pretty obsessed with Harry Potter! They gathered up their clothes and made their own costumes!

Grandpa and Grandma Gilmore bought the family Just Dance 3 and we have had so much fun dancing along with the Wii! Grandpa and Grandpa K. also spoiled Sadie and Sophie with two game systems, they are loving these.
Many more gifts were received! Too many to count actually. We are indeed blessed to have so many family members and dear friends who remember our children on Christmas Day. Amidst all the gifts...the focus of Christmas is never taken away from Christ and His Birth. We love our Savior and are SO grateful for all that HE has blessed us with!

December In Review

December was a month of celebration for the Gilmore Family. To kick off our festivities we celebrated Dallas' Birthday, hosted our dear friends David and Rebecca Gray on their trip here to Hawaii, and celebrated Christmas and New Years exploring the island of Oahu.

For those who know Dallas, he would not want me to mention that it was his birthday, but for the purpose of our family history, I am going to mention that we did celebrate his birth and have enjoyed him immensely as a husband and father this past year!! Dallas received his birthday gift from me back in November...I bought him a Harley Nightster 1200XL! I write, "I bought him", 'cause I agreed to make the purchase! LOL! He has been eyeing a motorcycle for the longest time and even almost convinced me to let  him buy one back in Kuwait on his way home from his deployment in Iraq. I finally caved and let him fulfill his dream of owning a motorcycle. With that being said, he enjoys riding his Harley to and from work and to church...and yes, he drives his motorcycle with his suit on! The children and I love and adore Dallas dearly. I must admit... I enjoy watching Dallas drive his new bike especially, when I follow him home from church and the other bikers give their friendly wave, it makes my heart swell because Dallas can now officially wave back! I love you Dallas!

We have known Uncle David and Auntie Abecca (as Sariah lovingly calls her) since our BYU days in Provo, Utah. They lived above us in our humble two bedroom apartment at Wymount Terrace (BYU Student Family Housing) for about three to four months. David and Dallas first became friends because they were both in the ROTC program at BYU and then Rebecca and I became friends. We enjoyed their visit immensely and consider them family. They are ever-so-patient with our wild children and our children LOVE them! It's been nearly three and a half years since we last saw them and still we find ourselves in deep conversation over the dumbest things. 

Here are a couple of pictures of us visiting Turtle Beach, Bellows, celebrating Rebecca's Birthday, sightseeing the nearby Byodo-In Buddhist Temple, exploring Hanauma Bay and Dallas and David's Deep Sea Fishing Adventure!

For some reason, I guess I shouldn't be surprised, Ammon and Sariah were the only ones to pack their swimsuits when we went to Turtle Beach! As you can see they had a good time playing in the water! Sariah is such a free spirit, it makes me laugh!

Here we are sightseeing in Honolulu. We stopped to grab a bite to eat at a local hot dog stand and were able to watch a Christmas Hula Performance. The kids are bundled up because it was raining and kinda cold that evening.

Dallas, David and Rebecca along with the kids built this amazing sand castle while we were at Bellows Beach. We rented two Beach Houses and stayed two nights on the beautiful beaches of Bellows near Kaneohe, HI. The picture of Dallas and Ammon is now my all time favorite! Here are Ammon, Sophie and Sadie playing a game of miniature golf at Bellows.

So, much was done in the days that followed. We went sightseeing around the more scenic side of the island of  Oahu, visited the Byodo-In Buddhist Temple found in the Valley of the Temples (that is shown in the t.v. series LOST), the kids signed the "autograph tree"(which is near the temple) and Rebecca attempted to blow out her Birthday Candles, but was interrupted by our children...mainly Ammon and Sariah! The day after Christmas we took the children Ice Skating, this is a "FIRST" for them and they proved to be great! At the end of our visit Sadie, Sophie and Sariah were off BRAVELY skating on their own!! I attempted to skate, but was too much of a whimp...plus I am prego and didn't want to fall, but that would not have happened because Dallas was by my side the entire time!

We woke up at 5am and headed to Hanauma Bay Park in hopes of making it into the parking lot. As you probably don't know Hanauma Bay only keeps it's parking lot open until it is full and that is usually around 8am. We arrived at 6:25am and spent the entire day enjoying the BEAUTIFUL scenery of Hanauma Bay! Dallas and David went scuba diving searching for sharks while Rebecca and I watched the kids until their return, which was about an hour and a half. Dallas, David and Rebecca then took the kids out to go snorkeling. They saw many fish and a turtle in the nearby reef. I stayed on the beach and took pics...I was tired, but had a blast!

Dallas took Sariah out snorkeling and this was the end result...Sariah walking out of the water freezing! Don't you love her wild snarled hair?! I had to take a couple of shots! Classic.

Dallas and David went Deep Sea Fishing near Honolulu. Dallas caught a Tuna and David caught a Gar, they were both very proud of their sea treasures! The next day Rebecca and I had lunch at the Macaroni Grill in the Ala Moana Mall in Honolulu and then we headed to a nearby Spa where Rebecca treated me to a facial and haircut. I really enjoyed this and had a wonderful time chatting with my friend Rebecca.
